The City of Ajman was established in 1800 by a group of families of the Al Naeem tribe. The city was constructed near the entrance to Ajman creek, which would become a strong sea port and help develop and stabilize Ajman. In the 1800’s, the city comprised mainly of fishers and divers, however by 1900, traders had begun to inhabit Ajman City and the population became more diverse. 1926 marked the historic year when HH. Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi took power. Under his rule, the city of Ajman developed rapidly.
The population increased again in 1950 when HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi took control of national affairs; indeed the following new suburbs were created to support the population growth-fueled demand: Karama, Rumailah, Bustan and Rashidiya. The 1950’s to the 1960’s is the decade representing the transformation from historical Ajman to modern-day Ajman.
